Newsletter for the Under 9’s – June 2010.

From Darren King

There seems to be so many things going on with the Under 9’s Kwik Cricket group at present I thought a newsletter would get everything on one document.

Firstly, I would like to say what a great success the Friday evening sessions have been, we have had up to 29 children attend, I thank you for your support and hope that your children are getting as much enjoyment and fun playing, as myself and Ian are in coaching.

All of the money from the Friday sessions goes directly into the club funds, to buy new kit, generally improve the facilities and pay for the new coaches to achieve the grade one or two certificates.

Coaches

We are aware that some sessions have been a little on the ‘busy’ side due the numbers of children attending and that on occasions Ian and I have been stretched.

This is an important issue as the safety of your child is most important and we need to supervise all, constantly.

I have had a meeting with the club head coach (Neal Perry) and Chairman (Andy Silsby) and we have agreed that if we have a situation with an imbalance of children to coaches, we can call over one or two more coaches from the senior practice that takes place down in the nets.

This winter I will taking my grade two level coaching (am currently grade one), Ian Geddes and James Portsmouth will take their level ones to ensure that we have plenty of coaches coming through the club, in the future.

Age

At the same time on a Friday as our practice, Nick Broome coaches the under 11’s. This age group is a step up from the under 9’s as they start to use a hard ball and play weekly team games in a league.

I have two 9 year olds who are in the process of leaving under 9’s as I feel they are ready for the next stage of their development, with Nick.

Tournaments (7 and over)

Our next tournament is on Sunday July 4th at Rushden Town Cricket Club, start at 1PM could everyone meet at the ground ( Short Stocks Rushden) click on the link and scroll down to Rushden CC main ground (FIND A LEAGUE GROUND) for 1250hrs latest.

We did not finish at Finedon, the May event, until 1930hrs (although we started an hour later).

Although there is a BBQ and refreshments there, could you please ensure that you bring plenty of food, drink, sun cream and a cap for your child, and a camera if you would like to take snaps of the day. The entry fee for this event is 1 pound per child.

We are putting two teams into this event, Ian and I will manage one each, they will be called Wollaston A and Wollaston B, but the teams are mixed.

Wollaston A   (Ian)                   Wollaston B (Darren)

Tom Halliday                             Harvey Punter

Emily Drage                               Max Henson

Dan Hodson                              Bethan Solomon

Lewis North-Row                     Marcus Davis

PJ Preston                                 Barnaby Portsmouth

Cameron Watt                         Adam Civil

William Geddes                       George Young

 Jack Attewell                           Marcus King

Sunday July 18th at Thrapston Cricket club 1pm start.

I have the option of putting one or two teams in for this event, depending on demand, so far Dan, , Marcus K, Will, Lewis, Emily and Nathan have indicated that they would like to play, could anyone else who wants to play please tell me or drop a text. This event is 20 pounds per team – 2.50 per child.

Sunday 22nd August at Wollaston CC

I will be looking for numbers in our home event nearer the time.

Mini Kwik cricket

For the younger players who are not ready for a tournament as yet, I am trying to arrange a couple of friendlies, on a  Friday night at the field , against Thrapston. These games will take place during the normal practice hours. The Thrapston coach  is very keen on this idea, it’s just a matter of finding the right date, I will keep you posted.

These games will be a good introduction for the children to play a match and to help with the laws of Kwik Cricket.

As with all Tournaments games and practices our aim is for the children to have fun.

Kit

It would be nice if the children all had the same shirts and Caps, we have no more of the Green T shirts left but..........Nick Broome has some G&M white cricket shirts with the Wollaston club badge on in Junior sizes, these will be with us by June 28th.

If you would like one for your child, the cost is 9 pounds, the club caps are 6 pounds, please let me know, they are the genuine cricket merchandise and will last your child into the under 11’s (size permitting)

If you have any questions on the above or any other matter, please feel free to call me, 07770 867180.

For more information on the club and activities, please look on our website ; www.wollastoncc.co.uk

 Thank You
